Our colleague Marko Ebermann from our research specialist group „Journal Bearings“ analyzes permissible form and position deviations of plain bearings. The change in the minimum lubrication gap height with respect to the nominal geometric bearing is determined by specifying the shape deviation (gap height field) with the use of an FE Reynolds solver. In the case of roundness deviation, the orientation is varied until the smallest minimum lubrication gap height is achieved (worst case). After extensive parameter variation, the permissible form deviation assigned to the permissible change in the minimum gap height can be derived from this.
