The newly acquired laser confocal microscope from Keyence enables high-resolution detection of surfaces down to the nanometer range (5nm) in a short time. The microscope offers two different acquisition modes. The surface can be acquired by conventional light microscopy using focus variation or laser confocal. The laser confocal mode provides even higher quality measurement data for an exact evaluation of surface characteristics. Complex surfaces, which previously took many hours to measure, can now be carried out within a few minutes and deliver higher quality results. The „Tribology“ and „Strength“ research groups thus have a powerful tool at their disposal for researching and assessing surface and material damage.
