Excursion to the local global player in the transmission sector

Last month, the Chair of Machine Elements and Product Development organised a student excursion as part of the course Design/Machine Elements. The Flender Industriegetriebe company has its large gearbox division at this location, which has been characterised by mechanical engineering since the 19th century and is only 40 km away from Chemnitz, and manufactures gearboxes for the whole world here. The KL/ME IV students in particular were able to learn a thing or two about gearbox design from the professionals. Another part of the excursion at the location was the visit to the halls of Siemens Traction Gears GmbH. Among other things, we were able to gain exciting insights into the assembly of an ICE gearbox in the halls.

We would like to thank our former colleague Dr. Friedemann Reiß (Flender) and Dr. Thomas Liebig (Siemens) for the organisation and the presentation – we are looking forward to next year’s visit. Interested students have the opportunity to apply as working students or interns (+possibility of a thesis). The corresponding supervision will be gladly taken over by our chair.
