Prof. Hasse presented an innovative calculation approach for describing the fatigue strength of shafts in polygonal and keyed connections at the 15th SAXSIM in Chemnitz. The focused presentation highlighted the still insufficiently understood phenomenon of fretting fatigue.
Shaft–hub connections are among the most complex tribological systems. The interplay between tribological damage and simultaneous stress-induced damage significantly increases the challenges involved in their design.
Based on extensive experimental investigations and a comprehensive simulation study, the mechanisms of fretting fatigue were successfully reproduced and analyzed in detail. These findings enable a much more precise and reliable design of these critical machine elements in the future.
