On August 20th, 2018 the student A. Herde successfully defended his master thesis. His topic „Design Methodology for Complex Machine Systems“ is based on the development methodology of VDI 2221 and attempts to further systematize the design step. In the lively discussion, he was able to convincingly demonstrate that he succeeded in achieving this goal in the case of the gearbox housings examined. A generalization of this design methodology and further automation, however, requires further research work.
