The final meeting of the CORNET-project „Evergreen“ took place in Antwerp on 10th and 11th September. Together with our Flemish partners, the University of Antwerp and ViaVerde, as well as Nürtingen-Geislingen University (HfWU) and the Center for Micro and Nano Technologies (ZfM) at Chemnitz University of Technology (TUC), the project team presented the results of its research on dedicated vegetation monitoring methods for vertical greening systems. Using the building envelope as a surface for greenery offers a major opportunity to create new green spaces, bringing with it numerous ecological and economic benefits. The use of VGS can make urban life considerably more pleasant and make cities more resilient to climate extremes. The project aims to promote the wider adoption of VGS, which are mostly manufactured and distributed by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), by communicating their usefulness and sustainability to users and operators and by demonstrating the cost advantages in care and maintenance that application-oriented monitoring systems can deliver. Led by the Belgische Federatie Groenblauw Bouwen, the participants visited various VGS across the city and discussed the challenges and potential of the different greening systems with those responsible for them. Finally, a green façade on the university campus was surveyed with the drone presented here and RGB and infrared (IR) images were recorded.
